Our “fun scan” was today. That’s the 3D/4D sonogram that the doctor’s office offers for fun, and we’re amused that their office staff universally calls it the fun scan.
The fun scan comes with pictures and video and, supposedly, great real-life views (in color!) of baby. Unfortunately, our little guy is already being a stinker, and he’s not even born yet.
The technician tried for a few minutes to get a good image, but the pickle wouldn’t budge. She tapped on my belly, brought out a buzzer and even finally got out a cowbell. Yes, a cowbell. And she gave me chocolate. Dave thought I should have drank a Red Bull on the way to the appointment to really get the baby moving. We finally determined that baby has good hearing but is apparently stubborn and just didn’t want to move.
Currently, the pickle is breech. Not only that, but he’s flexible— one leg is flung upward so that his toes are resting on his forehead. The technician tried for about ten minutes to get him to move, and she finally offered us the option to reschedule. While that’s not very convenient— we have to go to Overland Park for the scans— we totally appreciate it. So, we’ll go back next week and try again.
And you know I can’t take my husband anywhere without something funny happening. After we rescheduled our appointment, the lovely woman who helped us told us that she was on our bus to the Jimmy Buffett concert last spring and loved it when Dave sang Neil Diamond and Buffett tunes. That bus trip was shortly after we found out baby was on the way, and I didn’t know if I could make it through that night with the secret intact— I had to get pretty creative when turning down drinks!
Here’s hoping the little pickle is more cooperative next week so we can see more than just an arm and a leg.
