Flowers from Grandma.

my flower from grandma

My maternal grandmother passed away last week, and the funeral was held on Friday. At the end of the Catholic mass, one of my grandma’s wishes was honored as flowers were passed out to all her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Each of her 12 kids and stepkids took a turn standing at the front of the church to receive a red rose, and they in turn beckoned their own kids and grandkids to the front to receive a carnation. It’s a large family— I have 45 cousins, and those cousins have 57 kids of their own. It was neat to watch everyone gather in their own family groups to receive a flower from grandma.

Figure out a way to preserve it soon! I didn’t think about that (or much of anything) following my great-grandma’s passing, so I didn’t preserve it in time. Throwing away the rose when it started smelling and breaking apart was just about as hard as the funeral. Sorry to hear about her passing.

Thanks, all. I’m glad her sister called my mom to let her know that’s what grandma wanted, otherwise we wouldn’t have known. I do need to preserve the flower, thanks for the reminder!
