Our sisters threw a baby shower in my hometown last weekend. It was the first baby shower where I’ve been the “guest of honor,” which is always somewhat awkward for me. I don’t like to be the center of attention!
Lots of people hate cheesy shower games. I am not one of those people. I don’t mind smelling “dirty” diapers to guess what baby product is in them. I like the mad-libs where you fill in baby-related nouns and adjectives to create a silly story. Once, I even held a baby doll on my hip while I raced to clip baby clothes to a clothesline with one hand and enjoyed every second of it.
At my shower, we all felt eight different gift bags to guess what baby item was in each bag. Let me tell you, to the inexperienced person, the items all felt the same. Except for the one that started leaking; it was pretty easy to assume that one was baby wipes. One of my aunts managed to guess all eight items correctly. They ranged from nail clippers to teething rings to bibs.
The little girls at the shower loved the other game: steal a safety pin from someone every time they said the word “baby.” My pins were gone within minutes. One of the girls collected 28 pins from the shower guests! Competitive little girls.
It was a fun afternoon with friends and family, and I’m grateful that we have so many people in our life who are as excited about the little pickle as we are.
