Giant bubbles in the park

I totally meant to post this LAST week and then, big surprise, I got distracted by something else and never came back to it…story of my life.

Last Sunday (meaning the Sunday before last!) was a beautiful day for a birthday party in the park. Sweet Silas turned one and we helped celebrate with festivities at Watson Park, lovingly referred to by the locals as the train park because of the historic locomotive that sits there.

After playing with stomp rockets and running around and blowing bubbles, the kids were distracted by another kind of bubble—Lawrence’s newest, weirdest sport, bubble soccer, that takes place in the park every Sunday.

I don’t even know how to explain what it is, so I’m not going to try. All I know is there are giant, inflatable balls with people in them, kind of like sumo suits, and they play something that resembles soccer but really it just looks like they’re bouncing into each other. There were a few extra “bubbles” not in the game, and the people in charge were kind enough to let the kids play with them.

Looks kind of weird and space-agey, right?

Cooper and his new birthday party friend, Agnes, and our friends Carson and Conner made a great team pushing the bubble around the park. And I’m pretty sure Agnes is older than Cooper…yet he’s almost a full head taller. Giant kid.

When the game was over, it was time to roll all the bubbles back to the truck and deflate them—the best part!

Huge thanks to the bubble soccer people for letting the kids “help” deflate the bubbles. They had a blast!
