living an unconventional life, one cocktail at a time

Happy valentine.

It’s hard to believe that one year ago today, I was trying to take pictures of a baby boy who wouldn’t stay propped up very well on the couch. Today, I was trying to take pictures of a toddler who wouldn’t stay still.

The real valentine surprise was yesterday. I sent Big Jay to daycare! It took the toddlers a little while to warm up to the bird, and Cooper was way more interested in the candy bouquet Big Jay brought along. (He clearly takes after his mama, even though he doesn’t eat candy. Yet.)

The older kids, on the other hand, loved Big Jay. They hugged and high-fived and sat on his lap for pictures. While Cooper sat on the floor and played with a lollipop, oblivious to the excitement around him.

Today, we sent valentines to daycare for the kids. I printed off cute KU quick-fold Valentines that my co-worker created (click here to see them or print your own) and then added a special touch from Cooper: thumbprint hearts. Well, they’re supposed to be hearts.

I stuck his thumb on a red stamp pad and then pressed his thumb on the card. He cooperated just long enough- we got all the cards for the kids done and then he was done sitting down.

They turned out cute, and along with small bags of goldfish and animal crackers, I think they were a great idea for kids.

Hope you had a happy Valentine’s Day!

I love the little thumbprint heart! Such a sweet way to “sign” his name. Otherwise, you are such an overachiever…Big Jay at daycare. Seriously…. 😉 I love it.

Overachiever, ha! I ordered his first birthday cake at HyVee and didn’t even feel guilty. I admit, though, I impressed myself with the thumbprint heart idea. I didn’t even steal that from someone else! (Though I’m sure I’m not the first to think of it.)

That particular heart was definitely the best looking of the bunch.
