living an unconventional life, one cocktail at a time

Mojitos for everyone. Really.

Basil plants | www.wifeofabartender.comThere’s a lot of reasons to be happy about a boy who is obsessed with the outdoors– he prefers running around the yard and chasing the dog to sitting on the couch watching cartoons– but my friends and co-workers will soon benefit, too.

See, I decided early on to find an outdoor hobby, and gardening seemed a good fit even though I’ve had questionable luck with it in the past.

This year, though, we’ve been outside nearly every single day all summer watering plants– and they look good. So good, in fact, that I can’t keep up with the herbs. It’s amazing what regular watering will do for your plants! I’ve made salsa, mojitos and pesto and I’m spending more and more time on Pinterest looking for more recipes.

But it’s time to start sharing. I have three giant bowls of basil, oregano and mint to take to my office tomorrow and I hope I don’t bring any of it back home.

My sweet husband gave me a pressure canner for my birthday, so when the hundreds of tomatoes on my six ginormous plants ripen, I’ll be ready for them. Although, I’ll probably be willing to share those, too– so if you like tomatoes, now’s the time to start telling me how cute my kid is.

p.s. Remind me sometime to share my wonderful, amazing mojito recipe. They’re not easy drinks to make, but I’m going to brag a little and tell you I’ve perfected them.
